The vision of Catherine and Dermot McGlade (Owners) was always to create a complete experience for clients to enable them to immediately de - stress and relax, amidst the spectacular views of the bay and mountains.
‘Donegal has a natural calming quality of its own as a place, not only in the ever-changing landscape but also in the gentle warmth of the people. You begin to relax as soon as you arrive in Donegal. It was always a dream of ours to capture this essence of beautiful surroundings outside, whilst simultaneously creating a soothing, calming atmosphere inside in our spa. We have gone to tremendous effort to ensure that this is the customer experience.’
Catherine further explains,
We worked closely with architects who specialise in spa design, to develop an environment, which immediately gives a sense of calm and well being and takes its inspiration from the naturally beautiful Sheephaven Bay. In addition, we wanted our customers to take advantage of the spectacular surroundings of Shandon Hotel Spa and Wellness. Our Canadian hot tub, vitality area and relaxing space all have uninterrupted views of the bay.’
The Shandon Hotel Spa has a uniquely designed vitality area equipped with aromatherapy showers, herbal sauna, salt grotto, and of course, a spacious vitality pool. The vitality pool designed to reflect the shore, is extremely effective in relieving muscle tension and in gentle massaging away all those aches and pains. The pool has floor to ceiling windows overlooking the sea.
There are 8 purpose built treatment rooms with soft lighting, soft towels and comfortable masseuse beds.

The Shandon Hotel Spa and Wellness provides a wide range of natural treatments and therapies, some are from traditions centuries old and others reflect the latest discoveries in rejuvenation therapies. The Spa uses Repechage products, an exclusive range of skin care and body products, all seaweed based. These luxurious products work in conjunction with the skin to repair and nourish, for and immediate and lasting effect.
The relaxing therapies include stone massage, seaweed wraps, Swedish and aromatherapy massage. For detoxing and (still relaxing) there is a Thalasssotherapy Seaweed Body treatment and Balneotherapy, proven to mineralise and release tension in muscles. For pure indulgence, the Shandon Hotel Spa offer gorgeous skin treatments, like a, Honey Body Polish or the pure indulgent Shandon Sea Spa Glow. Clients begin the pampering the minute they walk in, by slipping into a soft fluffy robe and slippers.
Says Catherine, ‘ We put together a package of highest quality treatments which use natural ingredients, many from the sea to make our clients feel fully relaxed and refreshed.’
All of the staff are fully qualified therapists and masseuses.
